Fort McAllister State Historic Park

I’m working my way back to Florida to a friend’s home to watch their doggie while they go on a cruise and spend more time with them!

Today’s park is located in Georgia at Fort McAllister State Historic Park. For centuries the rising and ebbing tides of the Great Ogeechee River at Fort McAllister State Historic Park have mirrored the currents of history, connecting Native American life, the valor of Civil War soldiers through to the Henry Ford Era and on to present day visitors.”

Evey place I’ve stayed at so far since starting my adventures have all been beautiful. Unfortunately, it’s been mostly raining for the past few weeks, so not much outdoor activity. This particular campsite was huge and there were deer in my back yard. Smaller deer then what is in Colorado. It really seemed strange to me to have palm trees and see deer! Did manage to get in a little walk in and enjoy this beautiful park in between rain showers.

Had several friends ask what I do all day, to be honest my days are pretty full. Typically, if I’m traveling my day consists of a few hours of working on business, volunteer projects, and other personal items. Depending on the location, I try to either hike, boat, bike or do something outdoors and enjoy the area that I’ve chosen to stop at. Then I drive only three or four hours a day to the next camp site. Usually like to arrive around 3:00 or so which gives me some time in the afternoon to find my site and enjoy the campground during day light hours.

So far, I have not made advance reservations as I kind of wing it each day. Have had supernatural favor, as each day I manage to thankfully get the last site available for that day! I typically stay off the main highways and always try to drive along seashores, or waterways, or back roads if I’m not near water. It would be nice to have a camera somehow mounted so that when I’m traveling over these amazing bridges, so I could capture the beauty. Kind of hard to do when driving!!
