Buena Vista

This summer I was able to take a trip to Buena Vista to camp with a few ladies from my hiking group and visit with two of my really good girl friends.

Part of the reason for going was to also do three of my favorite hikes over the course of three days, but unfortunately it ended up raining most of the time and we didn’t get do any of those hikes. So instead we were able to sneak in some kayaking, enjoy lunch at the lake, and see a moose hanging out in the willows, which was the highlight of our day! That afternoon we also enjoyed some time at Cottonwood Hot Springs and a great dinner at our campsite until the rain started to move in…

The next morning, I got up early and headed into town, because for some reason all the electricity in my van wasn’t working. Gratefully I was able to find a local shop that took few minutes to help me troubleshoot the problem. The day prior for lunch we turned both of my seats around in the van to enjoy the view of the lake and get out of the rain. Well unknown to me there is a breaker switch on the driver’s side that got bumped which knocked out my entire system. I’m still learning all the workings of my van, so this was a biggie one.

Then we went into town of BV walked around as it was still misting and overcast.  We also went to one of my favorite restaurants the Asian Palate to meet up with one of my dearest friends Judy P. Without going into a long story let’s just say Judy was one of the people that helped me through a very difficult and dark time in my life. She was a prayer warrior and a servant while I was at her home for a few months. So, whenever I get an opportunity to spend time with her, I cherish that time.

After our lunch time, we all separated, and I drove back to Summit County to get two of my doggies and came back to meet Judy P. at her home. Judy loves to kayak so over the next two days that were finally sunny and warm we spent kayaking.

The first day we went halfway around Clear Creek Lake and back. I stayed pretty close to shore to allow the doggies to have fun running along the shore and in and out of the water. The water was flat and perfect that day and Judy was a happy camper and so glad to have finally got out on the water. As you know kayaks are cumbersome and sometimes a real pain to transport so sometimes it’s a lot easier when someone else can carry and transport the kayaks for her, which I did easily on my van.

The next day we spent the entire day on Cottonwood Lake. As this lake is a bit smaller, we were able to go around or across the lake several times during the day. I stayed close to our picnic area with the doggies as they couldn’t run all around the shore this time. We would go exploring the canals through willows where the moose were the day prior and come back all throughout the day. A few times I took the little one with me in the kayak and the yellow one swam. It was another beautiful day and like always I really appreciate the time I got to spend with Judy.

Rodeo loved being in kayak too!

The following day I went and visited with my other friend Judy, who also has been rock solid very special friend. It was raining a bit that day too, so we just hung out at her home to visit and then later that day I headed back to Summit County and for the next few days camped at Heaton Bay on Lake Dillon.
