CATHY’S THOUGHTS PROVERBS 8:1-11
For the last several weeks Proverbs has given us several warnings about things that are not wise. Warning against sinful men, stern warnings and several weeks about rejecting wisdom, several weeks warning us against adultery, and warnings against folly (lack of good sense foolishness). Wisdom is something that is available to us from God IF we are willing to seek it. But wisdom is also seeking us, as we will discover as we dig into the scriptures for the next few weeks.
Verses 1-3 Wisdom is calling for us, it’s all around us wherever we look. If we look for it. It’s there for us to take hold of, God’s wisdom.
Verses 4-7 Wisdom should be grabbed by those of us that are simple and foolish. Wisdom is truth and trustworthy. When we gain wisdom we cannot go wrong.
Verses 8-9 Only a child of God will be able to recognize wisdom; discerning what is God’s word and what is not.
Verses 10-11 I love these passages. We should choose wisdom over money, possessions, and keeping up with others. It’s far more precious than silver, gold, and rubies. Nothing in this world can compare to obtaining God’s wisdom.
Seek God’s wisdom, welcome God’s wisdom when it calls out to you, and cherish God’s wisdom…
TODAY’S SCRIPTURES PROVERBS 8:1-11
Verses 1-3 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud:
Verses 4-7 “To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it. Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.
Verses 8-9 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. To the discerning all of them are right; they are upright to those who have found knowledge.
Verses 10-11 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
