TODAY’S SCRIPTURES

Mark 12:31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these.”

Romans 8:28-30 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.  And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Romans 8:31-39 (More Than Conquerors) What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died more than that, who was raised to life is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 13:1-17 (Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet) It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”  “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean. When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

TODAY’S THOUGHTS

  • A healthy self-image is seeing yourself as God sees you, nothing more and nothing less. (Josh McDowell in his book, Building Your Self Image.
  • Without pride or a false humility.
  • People that are loving others like they love themselves it can sometimes be damaging; because of the self-image they have of themselves.
  • Look to Jesus as our example
    • He knew who he was.
    • He understand the power within him given by God.
    • He knew where he had come from.
    • He knew where he was going.
    • He understood his significance.
    • He was secure in who he was.
    • He humbled himself to serve others.

Foundation of Significance Your feeling of significance will grow stronger as you meditate on these facts:

  • You have been called according to HIS purpose.
  • You have been predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his son.
  • You have been justified.
  • You have been glorified.

Foundation of Security Your sense of security will expand when you dwell on these points:

  • God almighty is for you, not against you.
  • He graciously gives you everything you need.
  • Jesus constantly intercedes for you.
  • You are more than a conqueror.
  • Nothing can separate you from his love.
