Our Words Have Power

OUR WORDS SHOULD BE

Saturday devotionals are with Created For Excellence; 12 Keys to Godly Success, Kevin Baerg.

GRACIOUS
Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Ecclesiastes 10:12 Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips.

RESTRAINED
Proverbs 17:27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
Proverbs 13:3 Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.
James 1:19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

CHALLENGING
Ecclesiastes 12:11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one shepherd

APPROPRIATE
Proverbs 25:11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a ruling rightly given.
Proverbs 15:23 A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!

GENTLE & PATIENT
Proverbs 25:15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.

COMFORTING
Job 4:4 Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees.
Isaiah 50:4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.

EDIFYING
Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

TODAY’S THOUGHTS

  • Quick and careless words slaughter more spirits and lay open more wounds that are slow to heal than guns, knives, automobiles, or even a virus.
  • There is more suffering from unloving words than any other kind suffering in the world.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURES

Psalm 17:3 Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.

James 3:4-5 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.  Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

James 3:9-10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Matthew 12:34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
