Don’t Let Wisdom Out of Your Sight

PROVERBS 3:13-21

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she (wisdom) is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.

She (wisdom) is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her (wisdom) right hand; in her (wisdom) left hand are riches and honor.

Her (wisdom) ways are pleasant ways, and all her (wisdom) paths are peace. She (wisdom) is a tree of life to those who take hold of her (wisdom); those who hold her (wisdom) fast will be blessed.

By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. My son, (daughter) do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion.

PROVERBS 3:13-21 CATHY’S THOUGHTS

  • Obtaining wisdom = A longer life
  • Obtaining wisdom = Riches and honor
  • Obtaining wisdom = Pleasant ways and paths of peace

  • Obtaining wisdom = Blessings

By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations: God is wisdom, God of no limitations, God created the earth by wisdom. Here wisdom is taken in its proper acceptation, for that infinite knowledge and skill which God has manifested in the creation and composition of the earth, and in the structure and economy of the heavens. He has established the order as well as the essence of all things; so that though they vary in their positions, etc., yet they never change either their places, or their properties. Composition and analysis are not essential changes; the original particles, their forms and properties, remain the same.

By understanding he set the heavens in place: prepared, adorned, and beautified them, by placing the luminaries in them, and directing their station, motion, and influence; the making of the heavens, with all the host of them, is ascribed to the essential Word or Wisdom of God.

By his knowledge the watery depths were divided: water knows its boundaries based on God’s creation and intervention. All wonderful works of divine wisdom, and show the greatness of him, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He determined in his wisdom how to break up the fountains of the great deep, so as to bring a flood of waters upon the earth; and by his knowledge those fissures in the earth through which springs of water arise have been appointed and determined; and it is by his skill and influence that vapours are exhaled, suspended in the atmosphere, and afterwards precipitated on the earth in rain, dews, etc

The clouds let drop the dew: this is what makes the earth fruitful, and is put for all the blessings of nature; the drops of dew are begotten by the Lord, they have no other father but him; the vanities of the Gentiles cannot produce them; he who fills the clouds with them, from whence they descend, is no other than the mighty God; and such is Christ the Wisdom of God. Clouds, the bottles of rain and dew, are vessels as thin as the liquor that is contained in them; there they hang, move, though weighty with their burden. How they are upheld, and why they fall here and now, we know not, and wonder.

Do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion.
